SUNDAY

My final show was “THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA,” which by now you probably know about since it has since toured to San Francisco and was also broadcast on PBS.  I enjoyed it but it didn’t, and still doesn’t, grab me in the way that it has grabbed some other people I know.  It seems that theatre people especially love this show, or more specifically the score.  You know, the Adam Guettel/Robert Jason Brown freaks.  I was a bit put off by the subject matter (it’s about a mentally challenged girl and her overprotective mother on vacation in Italy; I was not quite prepared for something that was considerably darker than the traditional romantic musical).  I did enjoy Victoria Clark in the lead role – she is someone I have fondness for from her work in “Titanic.”
